Yes another very good turn out, lots of fun, lots of frivolity and absolute Looniness, all left smiling and happy.
A good day for Fleet Town,a lot of the hotels and guest houses benefited and the townspeople took us to heart,a lot joined in and joined the Party officially.
All began with a general build up on the Friday, alot of people coming from far away, but by 3 o’clock most had arrived with stories to tell of the past years activities.
This evenings entertainment didn’t go quite
as well as planned as Elvis had to inform us that he couldn’t be there.
Nevertheless ‘The Big Fibbers’ played their hearts out and held the evening together.
Saturday saw the arrival of more of our party faithful,it was good to see our Party Chairman ‘The Jersey Flyer’ after a short break due to his mountaineering exploits. The local Newspaper was on hand to film the annual ‘Cabinet Reshuffle’ (for those that dont know its all done in a bedroom cabinet) as were ITV Meridian South-today programme, who
gave us a nice spot on the 5.30 news, also featuring the now famous ‘Chinners Derby’ Spacehopper racing.
Sat Nav fuelled Spacehopping is the future way forward for visiting the Loonyverse.
Following this excitement the Party Leader ‘Howling Laud Hope’ called the conference to order and gave a resume’ of his antics over the last year.We also learned that our once glorious Joint Leader ‘Catmando’
{due to refurbishment of the Dog and Partridge in Yateley), had his final resting place disturbed,so there promptly followed a minutes Meowing.
The Jersey Flyer proudly showed off the newly minted 99p coin which is now in circulation, now, they did cost £12 each to mint, you can buy one for £10 of which £5 will be donated to ‘Help the Hero’s.
Deputy Leader ‘Top Cat (Banana Man) Owen also gave a rousing speech.
Johnny (Cocoa Bean) Cartwright read and recorded the minutes.
By now Nick ‘The Flying Brick’ Delves had arrived from Derby, our treasurer.
He just reported that we were still ‘IN THE BLACK’ so that was good enough.
Other members were allowed to add things to the proceedings as and when they wished.
Evenings entertainment was started with a surprise visit from Linda Landers and her group the Skywriters,Linda is a member and was a very good friend of ‘Lord Sutch’. Our house band ‘Whats Next’ came on next and
were as good as ever,Chris and Ken and the boys have been around on and off with us since the mid 80s.During the interval sterling performances were recorded by Harrie Taylor,’she’ was excellent, also Dave collins gave
a wonderful rendition of old time Rock’n’Roll. Then Surprise,Surprise
Miss Polly Titian teamed up with the Big Fibbers and gave us her self penned version of ‘Theres a Hole in my Pocket Dear Tax Man’ to a tremendous round of applause.’Whats Next’ then pumped up the atmosphere to end a very successful two day gathering bringing the house down with excellence.
Thanks to William Hill our sponsors for sending Joe, he thoroughly enjoyed himself.
Our thanks once again to John and Suzzanne of the ‘Links Hotel’ Fleet for making us welcome,to Jamie Stackhouse for printing posters, and all the wonderful people of Fleet for helping us make this the success that it
was.
An End Note :There may be a Loony winner in the Lord Mayor of London race !
