Elections for Police Commissioners
You will shortly be asked to vote for your local Police commisioner.
The stringent rules regarding standing as a Police commissioner probably omit 50% of the population before the start, and then there is the £5000 deposit required which will eliminate the another 45% (Another case of democracy if you can afford it) or they can be funded by funded by local Political associations. (This will guarantee impartiality I’m sure)
However Commissioners can stand as a candidate on behalf of a Political Party, but will have to pay their own deposits. (So the question is why bother?)
Conservatives, Labour and Liberals are fielding 106 candidates and there are a few others standing as candidates representing a political party. There are 54 independant candidates.
So we can rest assured that if a candidate gets in that is fielded by a political party, that they will not take the party line, and will be independant of view….ha.ha.ha
There are in excess of 41 Police authorities and I assume that over time and due to cuts, and in the cause of efficiency this will be reduced eventually to one.
Then what will we have… A Police State…
Of course the cynical amongst us may say that the £ mil 2-3 it cost to pay these denizens of society could have gone towards better policing on the streets, but then if the crime figures get too low the commissioners will have nothing to do.
