I am leading another expedition to the mountains of crete in three weeks time.
This will be a military expedition and we shall be taking 12 days to cross the most inhospitable, harsh barren wilderness that is the “Levka Ori” – (The White Mountains).
There are no trees, shade, rivers or streams up there so one has to know how to survive in the wilderness to get safely across.
We are doing this to raise funds for “Holidays for Heroes – Jersey” an organisation on the Island that brings wounded service personell from Afghanistan and other areas of operations to Jersey where we give them a weeks holiday completely free of charge. If they need to bring a carer or their immediate family members then they come as well, and we try to give them an experience that will let them forget the horrors of combat and their injuries for a while.
Having been badly wounded in combat myself as a young man in the Special Forces I know what they are going through and it will be a pleasure to do something that will benefit so worthy a cause.
I am only landing back in Gatwick on Thurs 23rd Sept so may put in a suprise appearance if I am sober – Sorry – able to!! hoping my audience with her majesty is on the Friday, so hopefully I can get down to Fleet sometime.
