It has been many a year since Lord Sutch first proposed devolution, and somewhere along the lines the idea got a little confused, instead of having politicians sitting in a double decker bus travelling the country to get close to the people we ended up with new buildings further isolating the public from their politicians. A result of this was disillusion with devolution, leaving the devolved bodies to become full of politicians and other undesirables.
Well to cut a long story short, Mark Beech (of just 1 vote fame) decided to stand for the Welsh Assembly, and he was joined by his former incompetent campaign manger Pink Andorevil Gem.
Campaigning on issues such as reintroducing motor-rail to free up the M4 for use as a cycle track, abolishing the practise of British Summer Time, in favour of Gwynedd Mean Time, restoring Stonehenge back to Pembrokeshire and establishing an appointed second chamber, to hold the elected chamber in Cardiff Bay to account seemed to resonate with the voting public.
And in yesterdays poll they managed to gain 1,237 votes for the Loony Party, a massive 0.2% of the national vote. Mark commented that this is about 1,236 votes more than when he last stood in Wales.
Gem and Mark would like to thank their hundreds and thousand voters, their election agent Kev, and finally Alan Hope for getting the law changed so that they could stand.
This result gives a clear mandate to stand again in 4 years time, so long as Mark can find another spare £500.
