Nick the Flying Brick Election Summary

2014_3703_Kelham_Hall_Newark_5_JunWell! What a great  night. This was my third and by far my favourite by-election, my first two being Crewe in 2008, and Oldham in 2011. We all met up and had a tasty Chinese in Newark before driving to Kelham Hall, where the count was held. This is a fabulous building and the acting returning officer 2014_3684_Kelham_Hall_Newark_5_JunAndrew Muter ran a seamless event with a fantastic atmosphere and bar! We had a great crew including Howling Laud, Party Leader, RU Seerius, HelenBak, Dale ‘BB Black Dog’ Rowles, Karen van Woerden, Aloysia ‘Kim-Oh-No’ Carnell, Jason Fotidar, and my mother-in-law Margaret Norgett. At about 2am the atmosphere became electric when Nigel Farage made a rock star’s entrance and Howling and I swiftly formed a strategy of ambush. 2014_3722_Kelham_Hall_Newark_5_JunOur plan worked and the picture with story was published in The Metro newspaper. The rest of the UKIP leadership spent some time picking our brains and I suspect that the Loony policy of introducing piranha into our national waterways to make fishing a spectator sport will soon be adorning their manifesto as well as ours. Patrick McLoughlin, Transport Minister, also spent time asking me for advice 2014_3746_Kelham_Hall_Newark_5_Junand you can be sure that any changes to the HS2 will be due to my pearls of wisdom.
There was much talk on the night of an imminent by-election in Cambridgeshire South and a general acceptance from all the other parties that our leader Howling Laud should decisively win this and rightfully take his seat in the House of Commons at the same time that Andrew Lansley becomes an 2014_3876_Kelham_Hall_Newark_5_Jununelected European Commissioner. I spent some time back pedaling when talking to Paul Baggaley; a highly successful local campaigner for Newark Hospital. He latched onto my pledge, if elected, of becoming the Newark Town Football Club mascot. He turned out to be the Newark Football club chairman and was worringly keen on this policy! Paul achieved a staggering 1,891 votes beating the Greens and Liberal Democrats.
A great occasion and a fantastic night. Nick the Flying Brick
